This book is about designing better experiences and then making them come true. The author shares models and methods used in strategy and design firm Delightability where the core tenet is - if you delight customers, success will follow. Why are we surrounded by broken experiences? Have our organizations become so complex and our roles so specialized that customers must suffer through our collective shortcomings? No matter what your role or title is, happier customers and a healthier organization should be front and center in what you do. Gregory Olson is an author, business coach, public speaker, and consultant. He believes that we all have the potential to do better, as individuals, organizations, and communities, but sometimes we need a little help. This belief is what guides his writing as well as his work with clients and as a volunteer.
Pity - I *wanted* very much to like it. Like reading a philosophy textbook.. So little of this gets addressed. It puports to yield more "secrets" to powerful selling, but it's full of light and largely useless bromides. In California there are vast stands of so-called "pygmy forests" especially in Mendocino County, whose trees have been stunted by the serpentine soil. The author has interviewed a series of successful people trying to find out common patterns of behaviour which can supposedly be ingredients of success. In many such accounts the victims of such violent deaths remain mere ciphers, but in "The Killer of Little Shepherds," those little shepherds are clothed in real flesh, and their dignity remains intact.. I recommend it highly for introductory environmental studies courses, American literature courses, or courses on literature and the environment.
