This book was written by a lawyer for lawyers. Raising The Bar is a manual for better living whether you want to stay in the profession or you would like to find your way out. The author Adam J. Ouellette has spent the last 25 years reading thousands of books, attending multitudes of workshops on a huger variety of topics. Spending the last 16 years doing “battle” in the profession, Adam has been on the front lines of this battle and has seen, first hand, how low the profession has sunk for those who have called the law their career choice. His mission is to create the legal profession we can all be proud of.
I've always enjoyed the story, and after gaining in years I have come to appreciate the much larger text encompassing not only the tale of the White Bone Demon but also the origin of Monkey and his various escapades before and after his adventures detailed in "Monkey Subdues the White Bone Demon".
In my opinion, the most often overlooked features of this version is the beautiful artwork present on nearly every page, almost certainly modeled after ancient Chinese woodcuts recalling this very legend, if not reproductions of the actual woodcuts themselves (I am not an asian historian). It is strikingly honest and reflective. I felt the pain, anger, sadness, isolation, hunger, that existed for all the prisoners. It has always been one of my favorite genres. renzai@pdai.com.
