Though often thought of as primarily a male vehicle, the film noir offered some of the most complex female roles of any movies of the 1940s and 1950s. Stars such as Barbara Stanwyck, Gene Tierney and Joan Crawford produced some of their finest performances in noir movies, while such lesser known actresses as Peggie Castle, Hope Emerson and Helen Walker made a lasting impression with their roles in the genre. These six women and 43 others who were most frequently featured in films noirs are profiled here, focusing primarily on their work in the genre and its impact on their careers. A filmography of all noir appearances is provided for each actress.
Karen Burroughs Hannsberry is editor of the bimonthly film noir newsletter The Dark Pages and has written about the actors of film noir. She lives in Chicago.
The book focuses primarily on southern France, the cradle of the Cistercians, and deals extensively with women's monasteries and the Cistercian's foundation myth's silence about them.
An excellent read and an essential book for anyone interested in the history of the Twelfth Century or the Cistercians.. It's a fun book.. B. 5/5 - Cthulhutech is a great transposition of Lovecraft's universe to futuristic times and a highly recommend game.. Each story introduces new characters set in an amazing location, from the exquisite volcanic island of Lanzarote to the Great Dividing Range in the Victorian high country in Australia, or a camping ground on a music festival, and many more. Putting on excess weight was generally only a problem for some women as they grew older if they failed to scale back their eating to match their reduced caloric needs, and for older men who consistently overate dinner and dessert. Great book for kids though I lived every page being a kid at heart. One reviewer
