In ancient times there were TWO very rich civilizations located in the Nile valley region. Both used hieroglyphic writing, built pyramids and turned their rulers into mummies! One civilization was ancient Egypt but the other was the little-known kingdom of ancient Kush, based in what is now the Sudan. Created for adults and children to enjoy together, these fun activities encourage creativity as well as literacy and learning.
K.N. Chimbiri is a children's history writer. Particularly drawn to the classical eras of African history, in recent years she has given talks on the ancient Nile valley, particularly ancient Kush at London museums and has appeared in the award-winning documentary Nubian Spirit: The African Legacy of the Nile Valley (2008). She has been a member of the Sudan Archaeological Research Society based at the British Museum for several years.
