Though he lived a mostly solitary existence as a Trappist monk, he had a dynamic impact on world affairs through his writing. An outspoken proponent of the antiwar and civil rights movements, he was both hailed as a prophet and castigated for his social criticism. He was also unique among religious leaders in his embrace of Eastern mysticism, positing it as complementary to the Western sacred tradition. Merton is the author of over forty books of poetry, essays, and religious writing, including Mystics and Zen Masters, and The Seven Story Mountain, for which he is best known. His work continues to be widely read to this day.
I wish it was offered in a CD only version, not only to save money but also to go green. Great. I will recomend taking down to a kinkos and having it spiral bound. I also appreciated that this book contains some good research examples to back up both authors' claims. LeShan is a psychotherapist rather than a medical doctor and thus he approaches the topic of cancer from a different perspective. Kaufman uses Thoreau as his touchstone, but takes the latter's two-year experiment and expands it into a life's study. There is too much money to be lost if things like grape diets were being recommended to people and people were actually ridding themselves of disease without expensive drugs and expensive medical treatments. I would have given it a much better rating had she not tried to hijack the concepts of GIS for ulterior motives in such a tiresome fashion..
