I am looking forward to reading a sequel to this story. I underlined so many passages and added so many notes to the book, I'm bound to be referencing it many times.. This was during the civil rights movement where Jim Crow was alive and well and JB was a big part of our self esteem and moving forward. Despite the rather offputting title, this book is actually pretty good and informative. It would have been nice to have it under the tree in time, though!. So you could believe that this book was about Byzantium's so-called "crisis of the XI century" or that it is a story of the Mantzikert campaign and the few others that preceded a battle that has traditionnally been protrayed as an utter disaster. Further, the book should have really been divided into three chapters: academic dynamics, subpopulations of black male students, and then organizations.
